30 Ways for Muslims to Encounter Christ

In many parts of the Muslim world, Islam is passed down more through tradition, family, and society than in formal education. Prayer, fasting, and going on the Hajj are mostly done in a communal context.

Today, we pray in faith for our brothers and sisters in BiH to find community and family in your Church. We pray they would have vision for sharing what they are learning about Christ in their community, families, and networks.

Praying Scripture

“And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, ’Great and amazing are your deeds, O Lord God the Almighty! Just and true are your ways, O King of [BiH]! Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. [BiH] will come and worship you, for your righteous acts have been revealed’” (Revelation 15:3-4).

Father, this scripture speaks truth: one day your great and amazing deeds will be sung and all nations, including BiH, will come and worship you as their true king. We ask for you to redeem all the people of BiH so that they can dance before you as a once-captive people now walking across a dry sea, a once-imprisoned people now liberated from the brutality of Pharaoh.

We pray that the people of BiH will turn to you en masse as the Lord God Almighty!

Praying for the Church

While Christianity is legal and outright persecution generally isn’t experienced in BiH, the social isolation and ostracization experienced by new believers can be intense, especially because it usually comes from friends and family. Sometimes believers have a hard time finding people who are willing to learn and grow with them.

Pray that God will guide believers in BiH to those they already know who are searching. Pray for ministry workers to help guide new believers to sustainable, national networks to continue their growth.

Liberty to the Captives

Each of us who comes to Christ must repent of and renounce every pact, promise, or identity we held before faith in Christ. Join us in praying for our brothers and sisters in Christ from a Muslim background as they repent of their former identity as Muslims. This prayer is inspired by chapter 7 and 8 of Liberty to the Captives by Mark Durie

Our distinctive marks are not humiliation or inferiority, but Christ’s victory, unity in Christ’s love, and the cross. “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23).

Pray for Christians from a Muslim background in BiH to be freed from every need to self-promote, boast, and compensate for any sense of inferiority. May they embrace Jesus’ example of self-denial and follow Him.

Bosnian Insights

We often speak on how Bosnia’s three main ethnic groups are religiously affiliated (Bosniak-Muslim, Croatian-Catholic, Serbian-Orthodox). They generally have a basic knowledge about one another’s beliefs. But how do these groups view Protestants?

Many view them with suspicion and even view Protestants as members of cults. Some of this stems from post-war humanitarian aid, which was not always given with clear intention. Others just don’t understand the differences between Protestantism and Catholicism and assume they are one and the same.

Pray that these mixed views of Protestants wouldn’t be a hindrance to the Gospel. Pray further that those seeking Jesus would seek him and not a denominational affiliation.
