30 Ways for Muslims to Encounter Christ

Muslims (and all people, really) care deeply about their outward appearance or reputation in the community, but Jesus cares about the person’s heart. Religion can change outward behavior but can’t change inward attitudes—only the Spirit of God can do that.

Pray for the people of BiH to be convicted about their need for a clean heart and to seek out Jesus’ teachings on the topic.

Praying Scripture

“Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other” (Romans 12:9-10).

Pray for hatred of wrong in communities throughout BiH…not hatred of people, but hatred of evil. Pray that communities would cling to and love what is good. Ask that God’s Spirit would help people honor one another and delight in one another.

Praying for the Church

Pray for prayer! There are several groups across BiH that meet on a regular basis to lift up the nation and her people. These groups cross denominational, generational, and cultural boundaries. Pray for these efforts, for more to join in, and for renewed strength for those who have labored faithfully for many years.

Liberty to the Captives

Each of us who comes to Christ must repent of and renounce every pact, promise, or identity we held before faith in Christ. Join us in praying for our brothers and sisters in Christ from a Muslim background as they repent of their former identity as Muslims. This prayer is inspired by chapter 7 and 8 of Liberty to the Captives by Mark Durie

We have the power of the Holy Spirit to reveal the truth. “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth” (John 16:13).

Pray for all Christians, new and mature, from a Muslim background in BiH to trust only the Holy Spirit to guide them into all truth and to obey whatever he says.

Bosnian Insights

Bosnia has an incredibly rich literary history, with many important contributions in literature, poetry, and music. Perhaps the most famous of these works is Nobel Laureate Ivo Andric’s “The Bridge on the Drina.”

Another category of importance, especially to Bosniak culture and literary history, is that of sevdalinka. Sevdalinka is a type of folk music that incorporates epic-style poetry, strong emotions, and often a theme of love.

Praise God for the beautiful ways creativity is expressed in the arts in BiH!
