Day 2: Creation of Humans
One of the primary ways God is drawing Muslims to Himself is through simple Bible studies that highlight passages of scripture from Creation through the Resurrection. The Waha app contains many story sets that have been translated into dozens of languages. Throughout the 30 days we will pray through these story sets that reveal Jesus, the Word made flesh.
As you read these familiar passages, prayerfully imagine what it would be like to read them for the first time – to see the wisdom, power, beauty, and authority of God and to be drawn to trust in Christ and yield your allegiance to Him.
Pray for your people and place according to what God shows you for today’s scripture:
Genesis 1:26-27 (ESV)
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
Genesis 2:15-25 (ESV)
The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” Now out of the ground the LORD God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.
What this passage teaches us about God
A relational, purposeful Creator, God intentionally fashioned humanity through a deliberately ordered process, surrounding us with heavenly community and provision so we are never left alone.
- God made us in His image. Pray for the people of this land not only to recognize that they bear His image, but that it would also transform the way they view others.
- As they ponder the reality that their friends, family, neighbors, and enemies are all created in God’s image, may they more rightly esteem them.
What this passage teaches us about humanity
Made as image bearers from the dust of the earth and breathed upon, humanity is fundamentally communal. God created complementary male and female for companionship, multiplication, and stewardship of creation.
- Pray for those among this people who feel alone, misunderstood, and isolated. May the truth that he created us for relationship with him and others bring hope and stir a desire to understand more about how a personal relationship is possible with the God who created the heavens and earth.
Insight into how this passage connects to Muslims
This story shows God’s original design for marriage and community–truths that can transform Muslim families.
Ahmed complained about his wife. She didn’t clean the house the way she should. She didn’t take care of her appearance the way she should. His teenage children stressed him out. He has had a girlfriend on the side for years who he traveled to spend the weekend with. Ultimately, because he didn’t value God’s design for marriage and whole life commitment, he divorced his wife and married the other woman.
- Pray for Muslims in this land who are in disappointing marriages. Pray for opportunities to read the story of Adam and Eve and understand God’s original design for marriage.
- Pray that transformation would happen in their families as they trust God’s word, and that he would bring beauty into these broken marriages for his glory.
Insight into how to pray this passage for Christians reaching Muslims in this location
This story emphasizes that a believer’s place of belonging is in God’s eternal family — not cut off, separated, and in isolation.
- Pray for Christians working in this culture to clearly communicate this concept to all who are cut off from their earthly families because of their decision to follow Jesus.
- Pray that the truth that God puts the lonely in families would comfort them and remind them that they are not alone.
Related scriptures to pray for this people
The story in Genesis 2:24 continues in Ephesians 5. Father, we pray for marriages among this people group to be transformed by the teachings of Jesus. We pray that men would love their wives the way that Christ loves the church, and we pray for wives to trust their husbands and follow them the way that the church should submit to Christ.
Ephesians 5:31-32 says, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.”
Father, we bless this people group that they would experience oneness with Christ, and that this beautiful picture of marriage would point to the ultimate union: this people group united with Christ as one for your glory.
